Promoting High-Quality Afterschool and Summer Opportunities

  • Friday, January 19, 2018, 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM

**DATE CHANGED FROM DECEMBER 4TH TO JANUARY 19TH**

Advocacy is an important piece of afterschool and summer program sustainability. All staff, from front-line to executive directors, should understand how they can begin advocating for increased investments and higher quality programs from their elected officials. Join the Network for Youth Success to learn how local, state, and federal policies impact program quality and availability, and how you can advocate for change with your legislators and through the media.

During this training, Network for Youth Success staff will:

  • Provide attendees with an overview of the publicly funded afterschool, summer, and expanded learning programs in New York State and outline the steps of the New York State budget and legislative process.
  • Teach attendees how to arrange appointments and events with their elected officials as well as how to prepare for a meeting with elected officials and their staff.
  • Close the training with an overview of key messaging used around afterschool, summer, and expanded learning so you can communicate the benefits and needs of your programs with local media outlets and your elected officials.

This training is open to all afterschool, summer, and expanded learning program staff, from front-line to executive directors. All participants of this training will leave with the knowledge of how to advocate for increased investments in afterschool, summer, and other expanded learning program funding to support high quality programming.
