So often we get caught up in making sure children are “learning” something that circle becomes a lecture-style activity where children spend a lot of time waiting and watching instead of learning and doing. Activities become very structured processes that results in projects where all the children’s work looks the same. In this hands-on workshop we are going to play and while we are busy having fun we will explore the ways all of our learning standards are met.

“Less Is More”

Less is More is a training developed by the New York State Children’s Alliance to provide support and information to professionals working with children. The training hopes to help Mandated Reporters feel more confident about what to do when they suspect child abuse, to understand what happens next, and realize the importance of their role in protecting children.

Child Abuse/Maltreatment Reporting and Abusive Head Trauma (Shaken Baby Syndrome)

The abuse or maltreatment of children is against the law. Early childhood educators and caregivers must have a clear understanding of how to report suspected abuse or maltreatment of children. During this training we will take a close look at the steps to reporting when we have reasonable cause to suspect child abuse or maltreatment.

We will also look at abusive head trauma (shaken baby syndrome), why it happens and our role in making sure that it is 100% preventable.
