Farm to Preschool Coordinator

Eat Well Play Hard in Child Care Settings (EWPHCCS) is a research-tested, multi-level obesity prevention intervention that focuses on improving the nutrition and physical activity behaviors of low-income families and their children enrolled in registered and licensed child day care programs. This intervention also addresses environmental changes to reduce childhood obesity by influencing the nutrition, mealtime and physical activity practices that encourage wellness and healthy lifestyles. An initiative of EWPHCCS is the Farm to Preschool initiative. The Farm to Preschool Coordinator will implement Farm to Preschool activities at several qualified childcare centers annually in low-income neighborhoods where access to fresh fruits and vegetables is limited. Primary responsibilities include preschool age gardening classroom lessons and activities, supporting centers with the procurement of local foods to use at their centers, and supporting family access to fresh local fruits and vegetables to address barriers to poor nutrition and food insecurity. Programming will take place throughout the NY Central Region and may include sites in St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis, Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Oswego, Onondaga, Cayuga, Cortland, Chenango, Tompkins, Tioga and Broome County. The individual will assist the supervisor with administrative direction and management.

  • This is a full-time (37.5 hrs./week), benefits eligible, non-exempt position.
  • Compensation is $23.00/hr.
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Health Education, Early Childhood and/or Community Engagement or Associate Degree and 2 years transferrable program/functional experience may substitute. Experience in gardening education or community engagement related to farming, farmers markets, or community gardens.

Join our Energy Team

Community Energy Advisor

The Energy Advisor will primarily assist with the teaching of energy efficiency and clean energy education programs in the Mohawk Valley Region, specifically in Oneida, Herkimer, Schoharie, Otsego, Fulton, and Montgomery Counties. This position, alongside other Energy Team members, will work to inform residents, multifamily building owners, and small businesses, with an emphasis in low-to-moderate income and priority communities, of the options for adopting clean energy strategies in their homes and businesses. This position is also responsible for working as a team member and provides input to the supervisor on implementation and evaluation of these energy programs.
Work includes assisting in establishing and maintaining relationships and collaborating with community partners and local stakeholders to lend energy efficiency and clean energy programs to more-holistically address energy inequities. This position will deliver information and provide education in a wide variety of settings, including, but not limited to: providing educational tables/booths at community events; presenting before large audiences; making one-on-one phone calls; following up with leads/clients to provide additional information; assisting leads/clients with navigating every step of applying for relevant energy efficiency and clean energy programs available to them; helping troubleshoot obstacles to adopting clean energy strategies; coordinating with local energy contractors in providing accurate information on the programs, etc. This position will collaborate with community groups, energy contractors, supervisor and other team members to coordinate and implement engaging educational programs. This position will also serve as a subject matter resource and carry out administrative tasks that support the educational program and fulfill funding requirements.

    • teaching non-formal educational programs, with a preference for experience in energy efficiency and renewable energy, or related topics
    • social work with an emphasis on housing/energy assistance
    • assisting low-income households receiving subsidized housing services

Workforce Development Coordinator

The Workforce Development Coordinator will support and coordinate the workforce development initiatives for the Contractor English Program. The objective of the Contractor English Program is to address the contractor labor shortage and ultimately provide employment opportunities for program participants. Non-English speakers will be recruited and enrolled in the program to learn the English language and receive training on vocabulary relevant to the contractor industry.

The Workforce Development Coordinator will assist with promotion of the program as well as recruitment and enrollment of program participants. Responsibilities also include collaborating with community organizations, business partners, and agencies to establish the alignment between education, workforce training, and industry demand. The individual will provide information and connect participants with wraparound services & CCE services (transportation, childcare, advanced translation services, etc.…) as needed. 

  • This is a part-time (20hrs./week), benefits eligible, non-exempt position.
  • Compensation is $20.00/hr.

Join our Family Development Team

Social Emotional Early Childhood Educator

The Social Emotional Early Childhood Educator serves as a member of the Family Development Team and will deliver programming through our Herkimer County System of Care grant. The educator will deliver established evidence-based social emotional curriculum to Herkimer County pre-k staff, elementary classroom staff, community partners, children and families through direct teaching. The educator will assist in the implementation of training tools for classrooms. The educator will work community events when needed to promote Extension programs as well as Herkimer County System of Care services. The educator will provide information to participants regarding other Extension programs, community agencies, and services as needed. This individual will appreciate and promote diversity in all interactions with program participants, staff, and the public.

Family Development Educator

The Educator serves as a member of the Family Development Team to deliver programming on the impact of excessive screen time on children’s mental and behavioral health. The Educator will deliver programming to youth and young adults on the impact of screen time and will provide strategies for building healthier habits. The individual will also offer parents and caregivers education to equip families with tools to foster healthier boundaries and guide children toward safe, balanced technology use, while providing educators with training to identify and address screen-related challenges in the classroom. Programming will be delivered to youth, adolescents, parents, caregivers, educators, and the community in a variety of settings, including classrooms & family engagement nights. This position will provide data entry of participant data requiring confidentiality. The Educator will provide information to participants regarding other Extension programs, community agencies, and services as needed.
