The following trips and events are open to all 4-H members. Youth receiving Outstanding Awards in Animal Science, Creative Science, and Environmental Science, may choose from one of the following Award Trips. Contact the 4-H Office if you are interested in attending any of these events!
Agri-Business Career Conference (ABC Trip):
Introduces youth ages 14 and up to a variety of opportunities available in the field of agriculture. The conference is held annually at SUNY Cobleskill and features mini-tours to farms and area agribusinesses.
Career Explorations:
Career Explorations is a three-day event for youth on the Cornell University campus. The purpose of this program is to provide youth with exposure to academic fields and career exploration, to develop leadership skills, to provide hands-on experience in a college setting and to introduce you to Cornell University. The event is made up of two grade specific tracts: University U for youth entering grades 8 - 9 and Focus for Teens for youth entering grades 10-12.
Animal Crackers:
Animal Crackers provides youth ages 9 and up with fun hands-on science based learning experiences on Animal Science topics. The event takes place at Cornell in May.
Dairy Discovery:
Dairy Discovery is an annual program held in late March that provides youth ages 15 and up with hands on science-oriented learning experiences on dairy production and management topics which feature the facilities, industry professionals, and staff from Cornell.
NYS Forestry Weekend:
Join youth ages 10 and up from across the state for a weekend of forestry, games and competition. This three day event is for youth age 10 and up (and staff and volunteers) interested in learning more about forest, and to select the NYS team that will go to the 2016 National 4-H Forestry Invitational (must be 14-19 for the national event).The Forestry weekend activities include; tree identification, tree measurements, compass usage, map reading, night hikes and more. This event is held at Camp Owahta.
STARR:
State Teen Action Representative Retreat (STARR) is a three-day, fun-filled event where 4-H teens ages 13 and up participate in a variety of workshops and activities meant to challenge, excite and further develop life skills. The event is planned by teens and adults serving on the youth/adult STARR planning committee. Usually held in April at the New York State Fairgrounds- Syracuse, NY.
Capital Days:
This trip in May gives youth an opportunity to meet and interact with legislators, create awareness of career opportunities, better understanding of state government and network with delegates from other counties.Two 4-H members receiving awards in Outstanding Personal Development are selected to attend this two-day conference in Albany with delegates throughout New York State.
